Commemorating 70 years since the 1955 floods.
FLOOD STORIES 1955
directed by Anne Robinson and Nadia Piave
Dates: February 21 and 22, 2025
In February 2025, to commemorate 70 years since the disastrous 1955 Maitland floods, Maitland Repertory Theatre will present
three performances of FLOOD STORIES, 1955:
• Flood Stories, a new one act Australian Radio Play, and
• The Maitland and Morpeth String Quartet, a whimsical tale
Act 1: Flood Stories is a collection of stories from the 1955 Maitland flood. Some are sad, some are interesting, some are amazing and some are unbelievable. Flood Stories includes selections from The Flood Show, 1988 by W Frank Oakes with contributions from Gregory Ray and Chas Keys, adapted and directed by Anne Robinson.
Act 2: Nick Enright's poem The Maitland and Morpeth String Quartet will be narrated with piano accompaniment and mime. The poem is a whimsical tale of music and romance set around the time of the 1955 flood, written by Maitland playwright Nick Enright, and directed by Nadia Piave.
